The Forrest County Adult Detention Center is the county jail operated by the Forrest County Sheriff's Office. It holds people awaiting court, people serving local terms, and people held for other authorities. A local exit can follow bond, a court-ordered nonfinancial release, dismissal when no other hold remains, time served, or completion of a local sentence. Each reason answers only why county custody ended. It does not always answer where the person went.

A transfer also closes the jail's physical custody. The receiving party might be the Mississippi Department of Corrections, another county, the U.S. Marshals Service, or ICE. In that case the person did not return to the community. The release-log entry should identify the release code, timestamp, authority, and destination when those fields are maintained and public. Pair it with the court order when the legal basis matters.

Confirm Adult Detention Release

The official Forrest County roster is described as a list of current inmates. It is not a verified release archive. A missing name proves only that the person is not shown on that current list. Use the booking number to keep one detention episode separate from older arrests or a namesake.

1. Check the current-inmate roster only to see whether the booking remains displayed.
2. Call the facility and identify the person and booking episode.
3. Ask for the release date and time, release reason, authority, and receiving agency.
4. Compare the court docket when bond, dismissal, sentencing, or another order caused the exit.
5. If the record names MDOC, USMS, BOP, or ICE, continue in that agency's system.

Adult Detention Center Custody

The Adult Detention Center and the Forrest County Community Work Center serve different systems. The first is a sheriff-run county jail. The work center belongs to MDOC. A person sentenced into state custody may leave Arena Drive yet remain confined or supervised by MDOC, possibly at a location outside Forrest County.

Forrest County Bond Processing

Forrest County publishes bonding-service windows, but those windows are not promised walk-out times. The listed periods are Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to noon, 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., and 7:00 p.m. to midnight. Weekend service is listed from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The page states a Tuesday evening exception tied to visitation.

Staff must still verify the bond, authority, identity, and any other hold. Paperwork and ordinary release processing also take time. Another warrant or detainer may prevent community release even after a bond is posted. Ask whether the booking has been physically released and whether custody passed to another agency.

Note: Bonding availability shows when service is offered, not the exact time a person will leave the facility.

Forrest County Custody Overlap

Two correctional systems operate in the Hattiesburg area. The county Adult Detention Center keeps sheriff booking records. The Forrest County Community Work Center is an MDOC site, so its movements and releases are tracked statewide. Searching the wrong system can make a valid record look absent.

For a county booking, request the local release event. For a state commitment, search by MDOC number or name and compare the county of conviction, location, sentence, and status. The MDOC field called "Tentative Release Date" is a forecast, not proof that discharge occurred. A location change can be reassignment inside MDOC.

County and state records also use different identifiers. The Adult Detention Center booking number identifies one local confinement. An MDOC number follows a person through the state correctional system. Keep both when a court commitment moves a person from the county jail to MDOC. Matching the name, conviction county, sentence, and location helps avoid namesake errors, but only the completed record from the responsible custodian proves the relevant release.

Adult Detention Transfer Records

The Sheriff's transport unit moves people among courts, the juvenile and evaluation centers, Adult Detention, and other agencies. This local network makes the receiving-agency field vital. A person can vanish from the current roster because transport or a handoff changed the custodian.

If the release record names ICE, use the ICE Online Detainee Locator and detention contact after the county confirms the handoff. If it names USMS, check the federal docket and authorized Marshals channels. BOP applies after federal prison commitment, not to every federal pretrial movement. A BOP result stating "Not in BOP custody" does not rule out county, state, USMS, or ICE custody.

Note: Follow the destination in the county release record before concluding that the person returned to the community.
