Locate ICE Custody Transfers

To find someone released from Forrest County custody to ICE, begin with the county release record and then search the federal immigration detention system. A county transaction can truthfully say “released” even when the person went straight to another custodian. The ICE detainee locator may identify the next detention stage, but recent transfers and some categories may not appear at once. An accurate Forrest County immigration release search links the local booking and timestamp to the named receiving agency, follows ICE's identifier rules, and uses detention-information contacts when the public result is missing or unclear.

ICE Transfers After County Release

ICE detention is federal civil immigration custody. It is separate from a Forrest County criminal booking, an MDOC prison sentence, and a BOP federal sentence. If Forrest County Adult Detention Center releases a person to ICE, county custody has ended. The person has not necessarily returned to the community. The county release entry and ICE record describe two consecutive events.

A detainer is a request or notice tied to another authority's interest in taking custody. Its presence does not, by itself, give the public the exact future transfer time or outcome. Ask the county for the actual release date and time, release code, and destination or receiving agency. Then use the immigration system to determine whether ICE reports present detention.

No verified ICE detention facility or county ICE detention contract was identified in Forrest County research. Do not describe the Adult Detention Center as an ICE facility. The relevant local issue is an agency handoff that may follow a criminal-custody release. The destination field is the bridge between the two systems.

A Forrest County release to ICE is a transfer of custody, not proof of community release.

Search the ICE Detainee Locator

The official ICE Online Detainee Locator System provides two main search modes. One uses an A-number and the required country-of-birth selection. The other uses biographical information. Follow the live interface exactly because identifier formats and required fields matter. A small error can lead to no match even when ICE has the person.

  1. Obtain the person's correct A-number when it is lawfully available.
  2. Use the A-number search with the country-of-birth field required by ICE.
  3. If the number is unknown, use the biographical search and exact identity details.
  4. Compare the result with the county release record and known transfer date.
  5. Read location and custody wording as shown without inferring a final immigration outcome.
  6. Use ICE detention-information contacts if a recent or expected transfer does not appear.

An A-number is not a Forrest County booking number, MDOC number, or BOP register number. Each belongs to a different record system. If the county record says ICE but the locator does not return a match, check the spelling, number, country of birth, and time since transfer. Then contact ICE rather than announcing that the person was released.

The ICE detention-information page supplies the current official help route. Public information can be limited, especially during transport or intake. Keep the county booking number and ICE identifier separate when making inquiries.

ICE Locator Fields and Limits

The locator is designed to help find people in ICE detention. It is not a complete criminal case docket, county release archive, or immigration court file. A successful result can identify a detention location or agency information supplied by ICE. It does not explain the Forrest County charge, local bond, federal immigration case posture, or every planned movement.

Search itemUse and caution
A-numberAn immigration identifier that must be entered under ICE's live format rules.
Country of birthA required matching field for the A-number route when the interface asks for it.
Biographical detailsAn alternate way to search when the A-number is unavailable.
Detention locationThe location or contact reported by ICE, which can change during movement.
No public resultAn inconclusive outcome that may reflect lag, category limits, or input mismatch.

A recent transfer may not appear at once. Some people or circumstances may not be locatable through the public tool. A blank result cannot establish freedom, removal, or lack of ICE involvement. Ask the sending agency whether custody was actually relinquished and ask ICE for the next status through its official contact route.

Likewise, an ICE result does not prove the exact time the person left Forrest County Adult Detention Center. Only the county release transaction answers that local operational question. The two records should be read as a sequence.

Forrest County Transfer Records

Forrest County records should identify the booking episode that ended. A focused request asks for the booking sheet, release-log entry, release authorization, release date and time, release reason or code, and the destination or receiving agency when public. Include the full name, approximate booking date, and booking number so the custodian can distinguish the correct confinement.

The request form can be emailed to fcsorecords@co.forrest.ms.us, with mail, fax, and hand-delivery routes also described in the policy. The published policy lists $0.15 per black-and-white page, $0.25 per color page, actual labor for search, review, and redaction, no charge for emailed files under 25 MB, and $10 for USB or CD up to 1 GB, plus other applicable costs. Confirm the current estimate before authorizing work.

The Mississippi Public Records Act governs access to nonexempt county records. Medical, juvenile, victim, sealed, and security-sensitive information can be protected. Ask for the specific exemption and separable public fields if the full record cannot be released.

Forrest Transport and ICE Handoffs

The Forrest County Sheriff's transport unit reports that it moves people among courts, the juvenile and evaluation centers, Adult Detention, and other agencies. That local practice makes a receiving-agency entry highly useful. A name leaving the current JailTracker list may reflect internal movement or an interagency transfer, including a federal handoff. The current roster alone cannot show which event occurred.

When ICE is named, build a short chain of custody. First, document the Forrest County booking number and county release timestamp. Second, record the destination exactly. Third, use the A-number or biographical details in the ICE locator. Fourth, contact ICE if intake has not appeared. This avoids treating a data delay as a final immigration decision.

The local court record may explain why the criminal hold ended, but it does not decide the immigration case. A signed bond order, dismissal, sentence completion, or time-served order can authorize county release while an ICE handoff still follows. Pair the court authority with the jail transaction and ICE status.

The Forrest County release-record search gives the full local workflow for matching a court order to the physical county release event.

Forrest County Custody Overlap

Four systems may appear in one custody history. Forrest County Adult Detention Center handles local bookings and county holds. The nearby MDOC Community Work Center is a separate state placement. The U.S. Marshals Service and BOP handle different phases of federal criminal custody. ICE handles civil immigration detention. No single locator covers all four.

Custody systemCorrect first recordWhat release means
Forrest County jailBooking and release transactionThe county ended its custody, possibly by community release or transfer.
MDOCState offender detail and MDOC RecordsA state transfer, supervised placement, parole, ERS, or discharge.
BOP or USMSBOP locator or federal docket and Marshals channelAn end or change in the relevant federal criminal custody phase.
ICEOnline Detainee Locator and detention contactCurrent civil immigration detention or a change reported by ICE.

The word “released” can be accurate at each agency boundary while the person remains held somewhere else. Always name the releasing agency. Then check the receiving system. This phrasing preserves the difference between release from one facility and release from all custody.

ICE Contact and Record Checks

Use the current ICE detention-information page for assistance because phone and regional contact routes may change. Provide the A-number when available, the full name and country of birth, and a reasonable transfer date. Do not send unrelated sensitive identifiers. Ask a narrow question about current detention or the correct facility contact.

If the result identifies a facility, use the official facility or field-office channel supplied by ICE. If it does not, the sending jail can still confirm whether and when it transferred the person. A county employee cannot decide the immigration case, and ICE does not maintain the county booking file.

Immigration court proceedings are also distinct from the detention locator. A locator result addresses custody location, not the ultimate legal outcome. For advice about rights, deadlines, or representation, consult a qualified lawyer. Public locator guidance is not legal advice.

Note: Keep the county booking number and A-number in separate labeled fields so future requests reach the correct custodian.

ICE Release Versus Transfer

An ICE release is not proved by disappearance from the public locator. Public availability can change because of movement, processing, category rules, or system lag. Seek the relevant ICE documentation or confirmation. When a person is reported out of ICE detention, another federal, state, or local authority may still have a case or hold, so the same receiving-system rule applies again.

A Forrest County release record should not be rewritten as an ICE release record. It proves the county endpoint and may name ICE as the recipient. The ICE system must provide the later detention or release information. If the person first moved from county jail to USMS and then to ICE, preserve each stage instead of skipping from the county roster to immigration status.

For families and authorized contacts, the practical goal is a current, verified location and a clear understanding of which office holds the record. Use the county custodian for the local transaction, ICE for immigration detention, the federal docket for criminal court action, and MDOC for a separate Mississippi commitment. These targeted requests reduce confusion and leave a documented custody path.
